Frequently asked questions

Straightforward answers to the questions people most often ask when considering DeskBridge.

Getting started

What is DeskBridge?

DeskBridge is a private digital workspace that provides a consistent desktop environment across devices. Your workspace runs in a controlled environment that is separate from the device you use to access it.

Who is DeskBridge designed for?

DeskBridge is designed for individuals and small organisations who value predictability, clarity and long‑term control over their computing environment.

Do I need to install anything?

Yes. DeskBridge is accessed using a lightweight client designed to deliver consistent performance and reliability.

This approach avoids many of the limitations and inconsistencies commonly found in browser‑only remote desktop solutions.

Devices and access

Which devices can I use?

DeskBridge works on Windows, macOS and Linux systems. The client is designed to run well on modest and older hardware.

Can I switch between devices?

Yes. Your workspace remains the same regardless of which authorised device you use. Files, applications and settings stay within the workspace.

Is browser‑only access available?

No. DeskBridge intentionally prioritises a dedicated client to ensure predictable performance, security and isolation.

Sovereignty and control

What does “sovereignty” mean in DeskBridge?

Sovereignty means that DeskBridge is designed so control of the workspace, its identity, and its legal jurisdiction remain explicit and understood.

External vendors are not permitted to become silent authorities over access, identity or data.

Is DeskBridge subject to US cloud laws?

DeskBridge is designed specifically to avoid dependence on US‑controlled cloud platforms and legal jurisdictions wherever possible.

This design principle is documented in detail on the Sovereignty page.

Do I have to give up familiar tools to gain sovereignty?

Not necessarily. DeskBridge supports compatibility where it can be provided without surrendering platform control.

However, some conveniences commonly found in consumer cloud platforms are intentionally excluded where they would undermine sovereignty.

How DeskBridge differs from a standard Windows PC

Is this just a Windows computer in the cloud?

No. DeskBridge is a workspace service, not a rented personal computer. The environment is managed to remain consistent over time rather than evolving unpredictably.

Will I have full system administrator access?

No. DeskBridge intentionally limits unrestricted system access in order to preserve stability, recoverability and predictable behaviour.

Can I install anything I want?

DeskBridge supports a defined set of tools and workflows. This avoids the gradual performance degradation and maintenance burden common in unmanaged systems.

What do I gain by accepting these limits?

A workspace that behaves the same week after week, with built‑in backup, recovery and clear trust boundaries, without requiring you to maintain the system yourself.

Privacy and security

Is anything stored on my local device?

No. Files, browsing activity and email remain inside the DeskBridge workspace. The access device acts only as a connection endpoint.

Do you monitor user activity?

No personal content is inspected. Monitoring is limited to system health and reliability.

Are backups included?

Yes. Encrypted daily backups are included with managed retention.

Plans and support

Are there usage‑based charges?

No. DeskBridge plans are billed at fixed monthly rates.

Can I change plans later?

Yes. You can move between sovereignty tiers as your needs evolve.

What support is available?

Support focuses on clear, practical help rather than scripted responses.
